Performing Arts
The specialization in Perfoming Arts focuses in the scientific and artistic areas of performing arts and performance studies, seeking to develop training and experience previously acquired by candidates, in different branches of the ESTC Degree in Drama, as well as other artistic-professional contexts. These specific areas are included in the scope of the curricular unit Performing Arts, in which students are asked to develop specific projects in Performance, Movement Theatre, Music Theatre or Theory. The specialization in Performing Arts proposes several subjects in drama practices, with their respective core aspects as alternative:Interpretation:
- Drama perspective of interpretation work and related analytical structure;Movement Theatre:
- Mastering of interpretation techniques in different stage discourses, whereby stage discourse is analysed in a staging perspective;
- Contextualization of interpretation of different stage projects, in a production perspective.
- Body techniques;Music Theatre:
- Movement theatre writing and composition techniques;
- Epistemology of body studies.
- Voice Techniques: physical and sensorial characteristics as natural voice support in its multiple forms of expression;Theory:
- Word and text-based music-drama improvisation;
- Musical theatre repertoire;
- 20th and 21st Century Music Theatre History.
The concept of ‘Performing Arts’ focuses essentially in the action rather than in performance or conventions associated with different arts. This presumption fosters a radically different configuration of the resulting objects, which ultimately tend to present themselves as unrepeatable and autonomous. The multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary aspects of performing objects constitute one of their greatest interesting features but, on the other hand, prevent a definitive configuration of their contents, scope and identity.
Stage Design

The objective of this specialization is to improve professional skills in scene and costume design creation, including scientific fields that are transversal to drama, plastic arts, design, multimedia, architecture, costume and furniture, lighting, acoustics, among others, in a context of theory and practice, redirecting specificities from different arts into the context of Stage Design.

Production

Reflective and research skills will be developed to enable the acquisition of a wide perspective of social, economic, political and cultural contexts, which the cultural manager must be aware of in order to adequately fulfil his/her role.
